term "business" has at least three
usages, depending on the scope - the
singular usage (above) to mean a
particular company or corporation, the
generalized usage to refer to a
particular market sector, such as "the
music business" and compound forms such
as agribusiness, or the broadest
meaning to include all activity by the
community of suppliers of goods and
services.

It forms the core of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of content at technical colleges and polytechnics. In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or profession, observers of the labor-market recognise today the need to continue training beyond initial qualifications: to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life. People within many professions and occupations may refer to this sort of training as professional development.
